A sizzling hot housing market is pushing Utah home sales to new records. That’s according to a new report that says Utah Realtors sold the most homes ever during the month of May. The records, which date back to 2003, show a 6 percent increase in statewide sales, according to the Utah Association of Realtors. That’s up from an exceptional month last year. This May, Utah Realtors sold nearly 5,000 properties, an increase of about 300 sales from 2015. The hot real estate market extended to Northern Utah, especially as buyers looked for more housing choices close to Salt Lake. Despite the obstacles of student loan debt and rising home prices, young buyers still have a feasible path to homeownership. In fact, a national study recently named Salt Lake and Ogden as two of the top areas for buyers under 35. The National Association of Realtors studied employment growth, population trends, incomes and housing conditions in the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan statistical areas to identify the best places for millennials who are buying their first homes.
